Why Fill In Your Pool?

Turn a Liability Into
Usable Land

An old, unused inground pool costs you money every single year β€” in maintenance, chemicals, equipment repairs, and liability insurance. The average Charlotte homeowner spends $3,000–$8,000 per year keeping an unused pool running. Filling it in permanently is one of the smartest financial decisions you can make for your property.

πŸ’°

Eliminate $3K–$8K/Year in Costs

Pool maintenance, chemicals, equipment servicing, and liability insurance adds up fast. One fill-in pays for itself in 2–3 years and the savings continue indefinitely.

🏠

Get Your Backyard Back

Reclaim usable outdoor space. Install a patio, garden, outdoor kitchen, or just open green lawn where the pool used to sit. Most homeowners are amazed at how much space they gain.

πŸ“ˆ

Sell Your Home Faster

Many buyers see inground pools as a liability, not an asset β€” especially families with young children. Filling it in removes an objection and widens your buyer pool significantly.

πŸ›‘οΈ

Eliminate Safety & Legal Risk

Pools are a major liability, especially with children, pets, or neighbor access. A permanently filled pool eliminates the risk of drowning accidents and the lawsuits that follow.

What We Fill

Every Pool Type,
Every Size

Junk Raider has filled hundreds of pools throughout Charlotte metro β€” from small backyard spas to large custom-shape gunite pools. Here’s how we handle each type.

Concrete & Gunite Pools

The most common type in Charlotte. We break down the shell using demolition equipment, remove rebar and plumbing, then fill with compactable material in layers. Proper compaction is critical to prevent future settling.

$13,000 – $18,000+

Fiberglass Pools

Fiberglass shells are removed or punctured and broken down in-place before filling. We remove all associated equipment β€” pump, filter, heater, plumbing lines β€” and haul everything away cleanly.

$10,000 – $14,000+

Vinyl Liner Pools

Vinyl liner pools have steel or polymer walls that must be removed or partially demolished before filling. We handle all of this, plus full liner removal and equipment haul-off.

$10,000 – $13,000+

Pool + Deck Removal

Many pool removals include the surrounding deck. We demolish concrete, pavers, or wood decking, haul it all away, and leave you with a clean grade ready for whatever comes next.

Pool + Shed / Structure Combo

Got a pool house, shed, or outbuilding you want gone at the same time? We bundle demolition and pool fill-in into one efficient project β€” one mobilization, one clean-up, one invoice.

Above-Ground Pool Removal

Not technically a fill-in, but we handle these too. We disassemble and haul away above-ground pools of all sizes β€” steel frame, resin, semi-inground β€” and leave the yard clean.

From $499+

How It Works

Our Pool Fill-In Process

Every pool fill-in follows the same proven 5-step process. No shortcuts. No dumping unsuitable material. Done right so the ground doesn’t settle and you never have to think about it again.

1

Free On-Site Estimate

We assess your pool size, depth, access, material type, and local permit requirements. You get a firm price before we touch anything.

2

Permit (If Required)

We advise on permit requirements for Mecklenburg, Iredell, Cabarrus, and surrounding counties. Many jobs require one β€” we’ll guide you through it.

3

Demo & Equipment Removal

We break down the pool shell, remove all equipment, plumbing lines, electrical conduit, and any associated structures included in your project scope.

4

Proper Fill & Compaction

We fill with clean, compactable material in lifts β€” not random debris. Each layer is compacted to engineering standards so the ground settles evenly and firmly.

5

Grade, Clean Up & Done

We grade the surface, haul away 100% of the debris, and leave the area ready for landscaping, a patio, a new deck β€” whatever you have planned.

Common Questions

Pool Fill-In FAQ

How much does it cost to fill in an inground pool in Charlotte, NC?
Pool fill-in costs in Charlotte typically range from $10,000 for a small fiberglass or vinyl liner pool up to $16,000+ for a large concrete pool. Projects that include deck demolition or outbuilding removal are priced on a case-by-case basis. Final pricing depends on pool size, depth, access, construction type, and whether permits are required. We provide free on-site estimates β€” you get a firm price before anything starts.

Do I need a permit to fill in an inground pool in Mecklenburg County?
In most jurisdictions within Charlotte and Mecklenburg County, a permit is required for permanent pool abandonment or fill-in. Requirements vary by municipality β€” Cornelius, Huntersville, Davidson, and other cities may have different rules than the City of Charlotte. We advise every customer on what’s required for their specific property and can guide you through the process. Don’t skip the permit β€” unpermitted pool fills can cause issues when you go to sell the home.

How long does a pool fill-in take?
Most residential pool fill-ins take 2–4 days from start to finish. Larger pools, projects requiring deck removal, or sites with difficult access may take 3–5 days. We’ll give you a clear timeline as part of your estimate. Weather can be a factor β€” we’ll communicate proactively if anything affects the schedule.

Will the ground settle after the pool is filled?
If done correctly β€” clean compactable fill material, placed in lifts, compacted at each stage β€” settling is minimal and expected to be minor over time (natural soil compaction). Improperly filled pools using trash, construction debris, or organic material can settle dramatically and create sinkholes. We never take shortcuts on fill material or compaction. This is the single most important differentiator between a proper job and a cheap one.

Can I build or plant on top of a filled-in pool?
Yes β€” after a proper fill-in you can plant grass, install sod, put in a patio, or do light landscaping within a few months. Building a heavy structure (like a room addition or large deck on a foundation) directly over a filled pool would require additional engineering evaluation. For most homeowners β€” patio, garden, lawn, or landscape β€” you’re completely fine after our fill-in.

Do you remove the pool equipment and plumbing too?
Yes β€” everything. Pool pump, filter, heater, control systems, plumbing lines, electrical conduit, and all associated equipment are removed or properly capped as part of the job. Everything that comes out gets hauled away. You won’t be left with a pile of old equipment to deal with.

Do you also remove the pool deck?
Yes β€” deck removal can be included in your quote as a combined project. We demolish concrete decks, paver decks, or wood surround and haul everything away. Combined pool fill + deck removal projects are typically more cost-efficient than scheduling them separately. Just mention the deck when you call for your estimate.

I have a pool AND a shed / outbuilding I want removed. Can you do both?
Absolutely β€” this is actually a common combination project for us. We combine pool filling and demolition projects all the time. One crew, one mobilization, one haul-off. It’s more efficient and usually more cost-effective than two separate jobs. We’ve completed projects as large as $18,500 that included a full inground pool fill-in plus shed removal. Just tell us everything you want gone and we’ll price it as a package.

How far in advance do I need to book?
We typically schedule pool fill-in projects within the same week as your free estimate. Demand varies seasonally β€” spring and early summer book up faster. If you have a specific timeline (selling the home, permit deadline, etc.), call us as early as possible. We’ll do our best to accommodate.

Questions? We’ll answer them on the call.

Most estimates take 20–30 minutes. We come out, look at the pool, and give you a firm number.
